Lighting has a profound effect on our experience of a space. It can affect our mood, sleep, and, perhaps most importantly, how attractive we appear to our guests. The three keys to a properly-lit space are (1) multiple sources of light, (2) emanating, whenever possible, from above the eye-level pointing up, or below eye-level pointing down, (3) all of which are dimmable. If you’re contemplating these principles while staring at that scorching, boob-shaped overhead light your building puts in every apartment, you’re ready to see things in a new light.

Wooden cutting boards are self-sanitizing (sort of). Water, and bacteria contained therein, is drawn into the wood’s pores, where it becomes trapped until the board dries out. When the board is dry, the bacteria is dead. That’s why plants’ vascular tissue is often referred to as “the bacteria-sucking guardian angel straws of life” in the botanical community.
